The Apiaceae family, also called the carrot or parsley family, is a large plant family that includes edible and inedible, herbal and non-herbal members.
Knowing which family a plant belongs to can help you make decisions about crop rotation, companion planting, and other aspects of garden planning.

Some members tend to cross-pollinate as well, and cross-pollination can ruin the flavor and quality of both plants. Fennel and dill are particularly infamous for this, but it can happen with other Apiaceae family members as well.
For these reasons, planting two Apiaceae species near each other is not recommended.
